We paid a flying visit to Lima from Mancora (mainly so Ro could catch the Ireland v France match!!). After dealing with a few painful taxi drivers (thankfully our first in South America) we arrived in Miraflores (a nice suburb of Lima) and stayed in a very religious looking hostel which was actually grand!
We dumped our bags and rushed to the nearest (and famous) Irish bar to catch the match...only to discover that it was closed!!! Thankfully we convinced an Arabian cafe to show it but sure it didnt seem worth the effort with that result!!
In search of shower gel (hard to come by in South America) we headed to the best supermarket weve ever been in (see picture - how sad are we!!!) with plasma tvs on ever aisle and enough tasters to keep you going for a few days...mmm!!!
Having passed through some of the areas affect by the recent earthquake in Peru and seen some of the devastation we were really impressed with this supermarkets novel idea to fundraise for the victims by asking everyone to round up their grocery bill to the next sole with the difference going directly. We really think this would be a great way to fundraise at home.
